Fibromyalgia is described as musculoskeletal disorder. It involves neurotransmitter and hormone imbalances, sleep disorders, and chronic pain in the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and soft tissues.  Clients suffering with Fibromyalgia often suffer with fatigue, cognitive difficulties, tension headaches, temporomandibular joint disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, and anxiety. Changes within how the spinal cord and brain receive the stimuli of pain.  It can lead to genetic factors, infections, and physical/emotional events.

The diagnosis of fibromyalgia is having widespread pain throughout the body for three months. The requirement is to have pain in four of the five areas in the body.

Left upper region, including shoulder, arm, or jaw

Right upper region, including shoulder, arm, or jaw

Left lower region, including hip, buttock, or leg

Right lower region, including hip, buttock, or leg

Axial region, which includes neck, back, chest or abdomen

Your family dr. would also rule out other conditions with a blood test.

Massage therapy can be beneficial in helping relieve tension within the soft tissue.  Utilizing Swedish massage techniques, trigger point therapy and myofascial release.  Will decrease the pain, stiffness, and fatigue.  It will increase blood flow to the heart to provide relaxation.  Increase the endorphins and serotonin (feel good) sensation.  Improve sleep, mood, and quality of life.

At Serendipity Massage, we will work with you on achieving the best treatment for fibromyalgia.
